Why am I so reluctant to maintenance, only beginning when it becomes unbearable?
Over the course of a month, I tracked the time I spent on maintenance. A Rundown of Sub-Maintenance visualizes the daily breakdown across three categories: self-maintenance, external maintenance, and unrecorded or indeterminate time. Through this process, I came to realize that every minute is a form of maintenance. In this crisis-driven, survival mode of being, consistent care becomes too “expensive.” How do we “upgrade” when we are perpetually maintaining and behind on maintenance? If everything is maintenance, are we slowly sinking into a dysfunctional system?
Maintenance is rot, and rot is an unaffordable form of maintenance.
